SUPPORT = CHOICE
Support Your Local Independent Hospitality Businesses. Businesses within the hospitality sector are continuing to close at an alarming rate. According to a recent report published by the British Beer and Pub Association there are 39 pubs a week shutting their doors. More worrying is the fact that a massive 22 of them, per week, are independently run Free Houses. These establishments suffer under the stranglehold that the pub companies have over beer prices. Tenanted and managed pubs are able to buy their beer at much cheaper rates through their parent companies. Independents are left with no option but to buy at greatly inflated rates whilst still needing to keep price’s competitive to attract and keep custom. Achieving and maintaining this balance is an art form in itself and one which seemingly, despite their best efforts, fewer and fewer licensees are managing to pull off. Opening the door to a warm, welcoming, individual hostelry is surely better than opening one on these plastic, samey establishments the pub companies keep churning out. An afternoon or evening spent in characterful surroundings, indulging in great home cooked food, washed down with any one, (or more), of the great tipples on offer. Surely, surely this has to be a more enjoyable experience than the corporate alternatives? Why choose a place uniform in decor, drink and food offerings. Places devoid of all character and individuality. Places where the only spirit in the place is that held in the optics?
